Final Score: Carndonagh 2-12 Fanad Gaels 2-11

In a tight game in which extra time was needed to separate the sides, Kieran Canny's Carn team won thanks to a late Darragh McLaughlin point. Carn opened the scoring when a high ball in found Garvan McGrenra who laid the ball back to Kevin Lynch for the first point. Declan O’Donnell added a second but Fanad drew level with two points of their own. Robert McCartney put Carn back in the lead with a point from a well-worked 45 but then Carn conceded a soft goal.

Stephen Doherty then turned sharply and ran towards goal and coolly slotted over a point to reduce the gap to two points. Carn then won a penalty when Darragh McLaughlin was taken down in the area after a smart knock down from Stephen Doherty. Cathal O’Kane stepped up and coolly side footed the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Carn added a second goal when Stephen Doherty found Kevin Lynch who hit the ball into the roof of the net to open up a four-point lead going into the interval.

Carn got the first point of the second half through O’Kane, which was cancelled out by a Fanad free. Two McCartney frees put Carn six points ahead. Fanad never gave up and a goal in the last ten minutes spurred them on and they finally drew level with a free in the closing minutes of normal time.

Extra time beckoned and the momentum was with Fanad. Fanad opened up a two-point lead in the first period of extra time and added a further point early in the second period. Carn dug deep and drew level with points from O’Kane (2) and Iarlaith McLaughlin to set up a tense final few minutes. In an entertaining contest between two evenly matched teams, a Darragh McLaughlin point in the dying seconds of the game proved the difference.
