Final Score: Carndonagh 0-10 Buncrana 0-08
The minor footballers defeated rivals Buncrana on Saturday last to clinch the Inishowen “A” minor title in Urris. In a tight match, it was Buncrana who got the first few scores, one from a free and two from play. Corner forward Robert McCartney opened the Carndonagh scoring account with a fine free kick taken from the ground, this was then repeated moments later from McCartney to leave Carn one behind. A goal opportunity came from nothing as Dermot Simpson and Cathal O’Kane linked up to put Darragh McLaughlin through. Unfortunately the Buncrana keeper made a fine save pushing the ball over the bar for a point. Christopher McLaughlin then started his scoring spree hitting one from play and two from frees. Buncrana got one back before half time to leave it Carn 0-6 Buncrana 0-4.
Buncrana again started the brightest from the throw in scoring first in the second half after bad wides from both teams. Christopher McLaughlin picked up where he left off in the first half putting over another great kick. Buncrana got a score back before midfielder Jerry Simpson was halved on the 14 yard line for McLaughlin to knock over another free. Young Winkers struck again from play before Buncrana had a man sent off with two yellow cards. Carn were a point up at this stage and Joe McLaughlin made it two right at the end with a close range free.
Captain Dominic Doherty spoke very well in his acceptance speech thanking everyone for the effort but a special thank you went to manager Kieran Canny who had done so much work over the past number of years with the squad. Well done to everyone involved!
