Final Score: Carndonagh 3-04 Kilcar 0-10

Carn had a brilliant victory in the Division 2 League County Final against Div 2 south league champions Kilcar in Convoy on Friday evening. The opening stages were dominated by the Inishowen side. Darragh McLaughlin got a lucky goal when the ball was coming at face level for the Kilcar goalkeeper. Regretfully for him he decided to catch the ball in his chest and stepped back over the line. Direct running from corner forward Andrew Doherty forced the defender to foul in order to stop his progress. Free taker Robert McCartney then converted the free to continue Carn’s domination. Kilcar hit back with some fine scores until McCartney hit again, this time from play to leave the half time score 1-2 to 0-4 in favour of Carn.

Kilcar had a more optimistic opening to the second half. They scored from play to level. From a free Kilcar took the lead. The Carn heads did not drop. Darragh McLaughlin thumped an ambitious ball at the keeper from long range. The goalkeeper again made it look awkward and palmed it down into the path of Fergal Doherty who side stepped the flat footed goalkeeper and struck low for Carn’s second goal. McCartney scored his second free of the game after midfielder McLaughlin was fouled. Saves from goalkeeper Iarlaith McLaughlin and interceptions from full back Sean Doherty made sure Kilcar never got the goal they were looking for. Robert McCartney was then fouled trying to turn the goalkeeper and was awarded a penalty which he converted with confidence. Kilcar pushed hard and scored three long range points but excellent work from all the Carn team made sure that the county title was going back to Carn.
