New League System for 2004:
<< Back
The new format, which is a one off, is aimed at arriving at a new slimmed down and more competitive two section division one in 2005.
The aim of the new system, in place for just one season, is to lead to more competitive and balanced leagues. The general consensus is that the current divisions one and two are very uneven and lack a competitive edge.
On completion of this year's league the top division will be reduced from 15 to nine teams with a new Division 1B also made up of nine teams.
Divisions two and and three will now consist of ten teams and all leagues will be played on a home and away basis, therefore increasing the number of games from the current 14 to 16 for Divisions 1A and 1B for 2005.
All County Sections:
- This year's section A is made up of 11 teams Ardara, Glenfin, Dungloe, Termon, Fanad Gaels, Kilcar, Buncrana, Naomh Ultan, Na Rossa, Red Hughs, Naomh Brid.
- Section B has ten teams Gweedore, Aodh Ruadh, Sean MacCumhaill's, Naomh Columba, St. Michael's, St. Naul's, Burt, Urris, Moville, Robert Emmets.
- Section C is made up of St. Eunan's, Four Masters, Naomh Conaill, Killybegs, Malin, Cloughaneely, Glenswilly, Bundoran, Carndonagh and Downings.
All teams will play each other home and away which means that the clubs in section A will have 20 games with the rest having 18.
And at the end of 2004, the top three from each of the sections will form the new 1A, the next three 1B, Division 2 will be made up of the next three from each of the sections while the bottom two from section A and the bottom team in the other two sections plus the division four winners will make up division three.
