Stone Cliff Developments (Malin) Under 16A Final: Carndonagh 0-07 Malin 2-11
Unfortunately Carndonagh could not complete the double over Malin this season, after earning a hard fought win in Malin Head to secure their place in the 'A' final, this was a bridge too far for them.
Playing towards the town end, Malin opened brightly and had the opening score through John McDaid. They added further points through Matthew Byrne and McDaid again before Carndonagh raised the white flag for the first time. Carn narrowed the gap with a further point but Malin’s most dangerous forward replied with two killer goals in a ten minute period midway through the half to increase their half time lead to seven points 2-03 to 0-02.
Carndonagh battled hard after the break but a stubborn Malin defence were giving very little away, except for the occasional free which the Carn forwards were content to knock over the bar. The goal that Carn needed to get back into the game was not forthcoming as Malin stretched their lead with points from Declan Walsh (02) Christopher McLaughlin (02) and substitute Terry Doherty (01).
Carndonagh were unlucky when a good long range effort rebounded off the post to safety ten minutes into the half. They added 5 points in total during the second half, three from play and two from dead ball situations. Malin captain Matthew Byrne added a further three points near thye end to leave the final score 2-11 to 0-07.
After the game Malin captain Matthew Byrne received the trophy from Patrick McLaughlin of Stone Cliff Developments who sponsored this years Under 16 competition.
The Inishowen Board thanked the sponsors for their generous contribution, the Moville club for the use of their facilities, referee Paddy McGonagle who had a fine game and the two clubs for a good sporting game.
