Bank of Ireland (Moville) Under 12 'A' Final: Carndonagh 4-13 Moville 2-08
This was a fantastic final. It was well contested with some excellent sporting football being played by both sides. The first half opened with two majestic points from Paul McCarroll the Carn full forward. This was followed by an excellent goal by corner forward Shaune McDaid. Moville then struck back with a goal from Michael Coyle and a point from Stephan Kearney. Eanna Newton then decided to play a bit of football. He scored three successive points without reply from Moville. One of these points resulted from soloing the ball about 40 metres before kicking it from about 30 metres over the bar, a point which young Newton will remember for a long time. Moville replied with two points from Enda Faulkner and a point from Odhran McDermott. The score at half time was Carndonagh 1-05 Moville 1-04
It was fifteen minutes into the second half before Carn began to dominate. Carn were awarded a free . Newton kicked the free wide but was asked by the referee Paddy McGonagle, who had an excellent game, to retake the free due to some infringement. Newton lobbed the retaken free into the square and directly into the net. This was the turning point in the game and Carn went on to score further goals by Evan Doherty and Shaune McDaid. Nine year old Conor McCormick scored a delightful point from about thirty metres. Ronan Doherty also scored a couple of fine points.
Best for Carn were McGonagle in goals and corner back Darren McDermott. The half back line of Conor Burke, Mark McLaughlin and Darragh Canny were awesome. Newton and McDonald won the midfield battle. All the forwards played well but in particular Ronan Doherty and Padraig Doherty. Moville were best served by Ryan McDermott, Odhran McDermott, Ciara Hegarty. Niamh McLaughlin was particularily impressive in the first half.
