Carndonagh 6-14 Downings 4-03
Northern Board Division Two U16 Final - Carndonagh overpower Downings

Played in Lifford on Monday evening last this game - going on previous league meetings that resulted draws - was seen as a game that may go to extra time. With Carndonagh having to field without their midfielder and Northern Board panelist Gerry Simpson, Downings would be hoping to take advantage.

Carndonagh 6-14 Downings 4-03

Downings opened the scoring with a point but in the fifth minute Christy McLaughlin scored a well taken goal for Carn. Further points by Joe McLaughlin, O’Kane, Coyne, O’Donnell, Simpson, and Dominic Doherty saw Carn take a nine point lead. This was to be short lived as Downings took a grip on the game and Colm Gallagher went unchallenged from the middle of the field to score a goal. Joe McLaughlin replied with a point. Brian O Búi scored a point for Downings. Declan O’Donnell scored a further point before Eoin McLaughlin got Downings second goal. The half time score was Carn 1-10 Downings 2-2.

Again Downings started the stronger in the second half with Colm Gallagher going straight for goal only to be denied by Mark Canny who kicked the ball up the field to be caught by Domanic Doherty who shot to the back of the net. Carn scored 1-2 before Christy Carr scored Downings third point. Further goals for Carn from Christy McLaughlin, Joe McLaughlin, and Ryan Davenport put this game out of Downings reach. But Downings continued to pressurise the Carn goals and Eoin McLaughlin got their third goal. A goal from Declan O’Donnell 45 yards out and points from Christy McLaughlin, Conor Shiels leaving the final score Carn 6-14 Downings 4-3. Best for Downings was Colm Gallagher and Brian O Búi with Christy McLaughlin, Michael Nelson, Declan O’Donnell, Mark Canny, Dominic Doherty, and Dermot Simpson best for Carn in what was a an overall good team performance .
