At half time in this game the teams were level at four points each. During the first seventeen minutes of the second half Buncrana scored six points without reply from Carndonagh. Carndonagh also missed a penalty in this period. Buncrana won the game in this period.
This game was a more robust affair than the first game. Some very tough tackles were ignored by the referee Kieran Mac Shea. Carndonagh adopted a very defensive strategy from early in the first half by playing Darragh Doherty as an extra defender. Darragh did pick up a lot of loose ball but this tactic had the affect of leaving two defenders on last week's star Darren Burke.
Buncrana were without the services of their prolific scorer Oran Doherty who was injured midweek in a school's game. However two other forwards Nigel Buchanan and Ryan Bradley raised their game scoring eight points between them seven of them from play. It was unfortunate for Ryan that the referee red carded him with eight minutes to go. However his tackle gave the referee little option.
Carndonagh played their best football of the game during the last quarter and came within one point of Buncrana with about five minutes to go. Nigel Buchanan then steadied the ship for Buncrana by scoring the last two points of the game having made incisive runs through the Carn defence.
The Buncrana club must now stand a very good chance of winning the Intermediate Championship .
Best for Carn were Joe Lafferty, Aidan O Callaghan, Shane Kelly, Gerard Doherty, Barry Browne, and Donnacha Gallagher when introduced as a sub. Best for Buncrana were Gavin Cullen in goals, Mick Galvin, Paul McGonagle, Nigel Buchanan and Ryan Bradley.
