Carndonagh 4-05 Downings 1-06 (Match Report by Vincent Lynn)
This was a game, which saw Carndonagh at their best. Player manager Paddy McLaughlin also showed an uncanny ability to make switches to the team at critical times. Introducing his brother Michael McLaughlin with 10 minutes to go to full time was a masterstroke. Michael who was carrying an ankle injury scored two goals. Switching the towering midfielder Kevin Doherty with the full forward Dermot Doherty caused serious confusion to the Downings team. Paddy has certainly come of age as a manager.
The game opened very well for Carndonagh with Gary McLaughlin and Donnacha Gallagher hammering home two fantastic goals. Donnacha then scored a fine point before Downings got on the scoreboard with a long-range point. The half time score was Carn 2-3 Downings 0-3 with Barry Browne and Dermot Doherty slotting over two fine points for Carn.
Downings tried harder in the second half but the half back line of Kelly, McConalogue and Doherty were playing terrific football. Man of the match Kieran Canny at corner back, just back from injury, was having his best game ever in a Carn jersey. Kieran made some fantastic catches and intercepted the ball on numerous occasions. There were some great passing movements of football through the match with Barry Browne and Gary McLaughlin involved in a lot of them. However the pass of the day was from Donnacha Gallagher who fired a sixty-metre pass from defence to Mickey Mooney to score his second goal. Dermot Doherty and Gerard Doherty were always on top at midfield. This was a great team performance. This team should win the championship if they continue to improve like this.

This was a game, which Carn deservedly won. The team had total conviction in their very obvious ability. The star of this team was the new man in town from Cork John Conneely. Some of his shooting was typical of that great Cork marksman Colin Corkery. John Ward scored a great goal and gave Sean McLaughlin a fantastic pass for his goal. The half back line of Donaghy, Nelson and Doherty was the backbone of this team. John Gibbons never stopped running for the entire game. Aidan O'Callaghan was very solid as usual at corner back.
