Carndonagh 0-10 Downings 0-14
This was a game of two halfs. Carndonagh at half time was leading 0-07 to 0-02. The Carndonagh team up to half time had played some of the best football ever played by a Carn football team in O'Doherty Park. Again at the beginning of the second half Carn seemed to be coasting. Oliver McConologue, Darren Burke, Barry Browne and Gerard Doherty(K) were playing paricularily well. Darren Burke scored some fine points, one an inspired overhead kick. The score with twenty minutes to go was Carn 0-10 Downings 0-04. Downings then changed tactics and started to pump long balls with the wind assisting into the Carn full back line. A number of scores came from Carn giving away silly frees. The Downings half back line got on top of the Carndonagh half forwards and the Downings team became the victors on the day.
As Carn had won the first leg it will take another day out to decide who goes through to the next round. If Carn play as they played in the first half they have every right to feel confident.
Again players and managers must learn that the referee's decisions are final and accept them. Indiscipline will not win matches. Giving out to a referee does not achieve anything.

This game was never a contest for this free moving but not as impressive as the previous Sunday, Carndonagh team. Manager J.J. Doherty was forced into trying people in some unusual positions due to the unavoidable absence of some key players. Keith Doherty was the star of this team always beating his man to the ball and scoring 1-3. The winning of this match means another match needs to be played to see who goes through to the next round.
