Downings 0-10 Carndonagh 2-08
Carndonagh emerged victorious from this tempestuous intermediate championship match, played in very mild conditions in Downings. In a game bereft of any real fluency or footballing excellence from either side, Carndonagh were the more economical of the two teams in front of goal, demonstrating a far superior cutting edge when the scoring opportunities arose. Downings will feel Lady Luck did have a say in proceedings and she was most definitely not on their side as they lost two thirds of their full back line early in the first half. However, it is the old adage that "goals win games" that best describes this contest as it was the concession of two soft goals that ensured it was going to be advantage to Carn going into the second leg.
Carn started the brighter of the two sides, going in to a two point lead on eight minutes thanks to Donnacha Gallagher, but they failed to register another score for the remainder of the half. It took Downings another 8 minutes to score but from the 16th to 35th mintue they tagged on five unanswered points, one from Paul Vaughan and the other four from County Under-16 star Danny McBride, who at the tender age of 15 ended the game with a personal tally of 0-08. The second half was a no-show for Downings, because despite their encouraging end to the first half they never really got going in the second. Carn made a great start to the second and were able to maintain their dominance throughout, as they tagged on 2-06 in the second period while Downings had to rely on the free taking of McBride for four points and a point from Shane McClafferty.

Beating Downings in Downings is never easy particularily in Championship football. All involved deserve to be congratulated. The second leg in Carn should be an interesting game.

Intermediate Reserve Championship

Downings 0-11 Carndonagh 0-06
This was a game which Carn deservedly lost. The team seemed to lack conviction in their very obvious ability. Maybe lack of match practice had something to do with it. Let us hope that the spirit and conviction return for the second leg in Carn. Shane Donaghy Pat Doherty and Aidan O' Callaghan tried hard for Carn.

The unfortunate Kieran Canny received a hand injury when he came on as a sub. The club wish him a speedy recovery. It is understood from reliable sources that he will be out of football for six weeks.
