Carndonagh 1-09 Urris 1-13
This was not a terrible performance by Carndonagh, their major flaw being a lack of effort as Urris were unquestionably more motivated and willing to fight for the ball. Carn were slow to start as Urris showed much more determination, Urris moving into a 3-point lead. Carn slowly fought back, winning more possession and were able to feed their forwards with better ball. This culminated in a goal by Niall McGuinness, which put Carn into the lead. Carn added further points, in particular a wonderful long range point on the turn by Gerard Crossan. But Urris came back again and reduced Carn's lead to a point at halftime, Carn lead 1-05 to 0-07. In the first half Urris relied heavily on the free taking of Shane Doherty at corner forward as he continually punished any fouls committed by the Carn defence.
Carn opened the second half on fire as they poured forward; they extended their lead to 3 points inside the first 5 minutes of the half. But this was as good as it got for Carn, they continued to create chances but too often took the wrong option, hitting easy chances wide, bad passes and dropping shots short into the keepers arms. Urris kept coming back at Carn from these missed chances to pen them back. Carn also had a penalty miss to further motivate Urris, as a result of Michael McLaughlin being rugby tackled by the Urris keeper with the goal at his mercy. Urris continued to knock the ball over the bar to draw level. This led to increased urgency being shown by the Carn team but they continued to make mistakes, poor shooting, poor choice of passes, etc. Carn forwards seemed to believe that a goal was necessary as they continually over worked the ball, passing over good chances for points, to go for goal. Urris all too gladly punished mistakes and any over carrying of the ball hitting Carn quickly on the break, with a more direct style of football. The clinching scores for Urris coming from breaks upfield, after Carn had given away the ball.

Division 3 Reserve |
Carndonagh 3-16 Urris 1-06
A very good performance from the Reserves, who showed a lot of intelligent running and passing. The score line suggests it was very easy for Carn but this was not the case as Urris competed with them all the way, making them fight to the very end. One problem is that players who are performing so well at this level appear to have no desire to push on to the seniors and this is very disappointing.
