This Carn team was awesome at times and terrible at other times. The game opened with a well worked goal between Cathal Doherty and Michael Mooney. Cathal delivered a fantastic pass to the sprinting Michael who coolly rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home a fine goal Cathal and his brother Gerard had always the winning of midfield with each backing the other up right through the game. Cathal in particular made many incisive runs at the Downings defence. Shane Donaghey had a sound game at centre back making many fine interceptions. Others to play well were Barry Browne and Keith Doherty in the forwards

Carn 1-22 Downings 2-10
There was a time midway through the second half where Carn were in danger of losing this game. Then the Corkman John Connealy decided to play and notched over a number of fine points. This was in complete contrast to John Ward who squandered numerous good scoring chances. The pacy Ward needs to learn to pass the ball and certainly needs a lot of practice in shooting. The team generally played well. J.J. Doherty who has just returned suntanned from his holiday in the Algarve was sound at centre back and was ably assisted by the two wing halves of Patrick Nelson and Emmet Dohertry. Keith Doherty and Martin McLaughlin were the best of the forwards.
