Milford Inn Division 3 |
Malin 1-07 Carndonagh 1-11
A minute's silence was immaculately observed before throw-in in memory of Sean McColgan Farren. This was then followed by one of the best Carn performances so far this season. Perhaps the fact that it was a local derby meant the Carn players had a bit more of a spring in their step and it definitely meant they were that bit more eager than usual but Carn were unrecognisable in performance from the one on display when these two teams met earlier in the league. The first half was a tight competitive tussle with both teams trading scores and at half time the score was Carndonagh 0-05 Malin 0-04. Carn had played with a breeze at their back in the first half and the second half was anticipated to be much tougher. The second half began with some niggly incidents and some Malin players were being too physical in their approach to the game. Malin drew level with the first score of the half but Carn retook the lead. Carn then began to exert an amount of dominance and began to build a lead. With less than 5 minutes to go the score was Carn 0-11 Malin 0-07. Malin then caused a few goalmouth scrambles and after one such scramble, some good work down the Carn left saw Niall McLaughlin (JB) put through on goal and he finished emphatically to the bottom corner. A quick kick out saw Malin hit back on the break and Martin Lafferty took the ball to the end line before pulling in back for Anthony Kelly to score but this was to be the last action of the game. Carn deserved to win because theirs was the better team performance which is illustrated by the fact that Anthony Kelly was responsible for all of Malin's scores. This was a good competitively contested game, which Carn deserved to win. Malin may go on to Division 2, but if Carn can get their act together promotion is still a possibility. Training continues every Wednesday night at 7.30pm. A special mention to Michael O'Donnell who had to leave the pitch through injury, which we hope is not too serious and to Gerard Doherty, who replaced him and his return from injury is a big boost.

Division 3 Reserve |
Malin 4-04 Carndonagh 0-08
This was a bad result for the Reserves and some bad goals were their downfall. This team has great potential and can play some great football but everyone should be at training. Carndonagh created some great scoring chances that were wasted and in the end this proved costly.
