Inishowen Reserve League Final Replay

Carndonagh 0-13 Muff 1-09

This was another tight and competitive game and in the end extra time was required to separate the 2 side. Muff made the better start but they were guilty of some poor shooting which stopped them from building a large lead. Carn also were guilty of missing easy chances and it seemed as if it wasn't going to be Carn's day. This thought was reinforced when Muff scored a goal with about ten minutes left in the first half to increase their lead and they almost scored a second shortly after but the shot was blocked down by the fullback, Kieran Canny, and Anthony McLaughlin (G) cleared the rebound. At halftime some how Carn only trailed by 4 points, 1-04 to 0-03. A few changes were made and Carn began the second half much better but Muff continued to threaten on the break but once again poor shooting letting them down. Carn were now dominating yet somehow couldn't break down the Muff defence and were restricted to shots from distance. However Muff began to concede frees as they chased and harried and Carn took the scores. The difference was down to one point with about 5 minutes to go and Carn then got 2 scores to take the lead. Muff came back and got two scores of their own to go back in front but with almost the last kick of the game, Shane Donaghy scored a magnificent equaliser from about 35 yards out to take the game to extra time, 0-10 to 1-07. Muff began extra time in determined fashion and could have had a goal with their first attack but the Carn fullback blocked Cormac Lynch's shot down and Carn went up the other end and should have got a penalty. At halftime in extra time Carn led 0-12 to 1-08. Carn got the first score of the second half to put 2 points between them and Muff but Muff came back and held Carn in their own half and in the last couple of minutes missed enough chances to win it. Carn won 0-13 to 1-09, they were lucky on the night but over the 2 games they just about deserved it. Best for Carn were Kieran Canny, Shane Donaghy, Joe Lafferty, Gary McLaughlin, Fergal Doherty and Daniel McLaughlin (B).
