Milford Inn Division 3

Carndonagh 2-08 Downings 1-09

Carn showed a number of changes from their last game against Milford but still produced a battling performance to record an excellent victory. This was Carn's final game of a long and sometimes difficult league season which they finished in style recording 3 straight victories to stave off the threat of relegation and set up the possibility of third place in the table. This game had little or nothing at stake for both teams though Downings still had slim hopes of promotion. So what should have been a tame end of season match was in fact a very competitive game played at great pace and with lots of passion as both teams fought to win possession and create scores. Both teams were subject to some questionable refereeing decisions, however it is fair to say the decisions were balanced out over the course of the match. Downings were the early leaders moving into a 4-point lead at one stage but Carn fought back and the lead was down to one before Downings scored a dubious goal. But Carn came back at them to leave 2 points between the sides at half time, 1-04 to 1-06. Carn opened the second half strongly pinning back Downings in their own half as they pegged them back on the scoreboard and then moved into the lead. The Carn forward fought hard for every ball but some inaccurate shooting let them down for in truth it took Downings 20 minutes of the second half to get a shot at the Carn posts by which time Carn had established a 3 point lead. It should have and deserved to be greater than 3 points but the ball just would not go between the posts and this always left the chance of Downings snatching a goal and getting back into the game but Carn held out to record a fine victory and hopefully ensure third place in the table. Best for Carn were Des Newton, Kevin Doherty(T) and Niall McLaughlin(JB).

Division 3 Reserve

Carndonagh 0-08 Downings 3-09

Carn were unlucky to lose to Downings in this very competitive match but in the end Carn failed to take the chances that fell their way and paid for it at the end. Thishas been a good season for the Reserves, winning as many as they have lost and everyone enjoyed the matches and being involved at this level. Hopefully we will see everybody back next season. Also a few old faces made a welcome return to competitive action in the Carn colours, a sight for sore eyes.
